Moyes bemoans defence after Villa snatch last-gasp draw
27/04/2008
Everton boss David Moyes admits he was upset with his side's defending after the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
The Toffees twice took the lead through Phil Neville and Joseph Yobo, but were pegged back by headers from Gabriel Agbonlahor and John Carew.
Everton remain three points clear of sixth-placed Villa in the battle for a Uefa Cup spot.
Moyes said he expected his side to win the game after Yobo's volley on 84 minutes.
"I am disappointed we conceded so quickly after scoring our second goal," Moyes said.
"I think that it was probably a fair result. There were two teams going for it and Villa are a very good side.
"Being three points ahead of Villa with two games to go is a great position for us to be in."
Moyes' side face Arsenal and Newcastle in their remaining fixtures, while Villa clash with Wigan Athletic and West Ham United.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill insists his side can still catch Everton in fifth place.
"We have the ability to fight back. We knew this would be a difficult game and so it proved to be," O'Neill said.
"I felt the first goal was going to be vital and yet we managed to get something out of the game.
"We are capable of scoring goals and we never gave up. We have a lot to play for over the last two games."
