Moyes desperate for Yobo to sign new deal
30/11/2008
David Moyes has revealed Everton want to begin contract talks with Joseph Yobo.
The Nigerian defender has 18 months left on his current deal at Goodison Park but under Fifa laws can buy out the remainder of his contract to leave the club.
Yobo, who has been at Everton since 2002, made a nightmare start to the season but has returned to form according to boss David Moyes.
And the Scot said he is keen for the 28-year-old to agree a new deal on Merseyside.
"Joey Yobo has improved in the last month or so and he's come back on to his game again. He had a start to the season that was really mixed," Moyes said.
"We gave them a month off to recover and when they came back Joey had the situation with his brother having been kidnapped.
"He was off for longer than the other but we had to put him in the team because we had no players.
He's got himself focused now and he's been playing more like himself. Joe's been part of what we've been doing here so we'd like to keep him."
Yobo played in Everton's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane today.
