Moyes inspired by Robson to remain with Toffees

12/10/2008

Everton boss David Moyes has revealed that it was legendary manager Bobby Robson who inspired him to remain with the club.

Although Moyes is yet to officially sign a new deal, he is expected to do so during the next week while the Premier League is currently on a break for the World Cup qualifiers.

Moyes said that entering the summer he wondered if he had been at Everton long enough and that it was possibly time for himself and the club to move on.

However, the Scot was inspired by a speech made by the former Ipswich and Newcastle United manager that made him realise what he had at Everton and that he should remain with the Toffees for as long as possible.

Moyes told the Sunday Express: "Bobby made me think that I still have a job to do. It's a dream and he inspired with me with his words."

The 45-year-old has been at Everton for six and a half years and says he now wants to try and emulate managers such as Robson and Brian Clough who became synonymous with their clubs.

He added: "Bobby got up to speak about his time in management and said he had been at Ipswich for more than 12 years. Then he mentioned that Brian Clough was with Forest for 13.

"And it made me think how lucky I was to have been at Everton for six and a half years in a period when managers may get one or two years in a job."

Everton have not fared well at the start of this season , taking eight points from seven league games and being knocked out of the Uefa Cup, but Moyes' decision to stay with the Toffees should at least provide stability.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18822401-ADNFCR
