NI football chief Wells sacked
13/10/2008
The Irish Football Association (IFA) has announced the sacking of its chief executive Howard Wells in mysterious circumstances.
The top football body in Northern Ireland said Wells' contract had been "terminated" but provided few other details.
Wells, who joined the IFA in 2004, filed a grievance case against his employers in August over allegations of discrimination and a £30,000 bonus payment.
When asked to elaborate on the circumstances of his sacking he could provide no comment other than that the matter was "in the hands of my legal advisors".
The IFA statement, which did not refer to Wells by name, said: "The Irish Football Association has today terminated the employment of its chief executive in the best interests of the association and the member clubs.
"There will be no further comment at this time."
