No decision on Donadoni
24/06/2008
Roberto Donadoni is still hanging on to the Italian hotseat after his employers refused to confirm media reports announcing his sacking.
The former AC Milan and Italy midfielder had widely been tipped to be given the boot by his bosses at the Italian Football Federation after defeat at the hands of Spain meant his team exited the ongoing European Championships at the quarter-final stage.
But no statement has been made by Italian football's governing body as of yet, with a spokesman commenting: "There is nothing official."
There have been suggestions that Donadoni will be summoned to a meeting with the Federation on Friday at which his future will be decided, with president Antonio Matarrese and Italy team manager Gigi Riva present.
After stumbling through a tough group containing Holland, France and Romania, Italy were criticised for their safety-first approach against the Spanish.
The sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after 120 minutes and the match was decided from the penalty spot. Spain won the shoot-out 4-2 with Antonio Di Natale and Daniele De Rossi failing to convert.
