O'Brien signs new Trotters deal
07/10/2008
Bolton Wanderers centre back Andy O'Brien has signed a two-year extension to his current contract to remain at the Reebok Stadium until at least 2011.
The 29-year-old arrived at the club in the summer of 2007 after falling out of favour under manager Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth.
However, former Ireland international O'Brien has enjoyed something of a renaissance under Trotters boss Gary Megson and has managed to hold down a regular place in the first XI, leading him to agree terms on a new deal.
"I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity that Bolton Wanderers gave me, and the way that the people at the club - the supporters, the manager Gary Megson and the players - have treated me," he told the club's official website.
"This has made me enjoy my football as much as I ever have done in my career, so hopefully I'll continue to do that and we'll pick up results.
"From my point of view, I'm happy at Bolton so if they were happy to keep me then there was never a problem.
"I'm delighted to have extended my contract and there's plenty of hard work ahead of me now."
