O'Neill frustrated after drawing a blank against Fulham
30/11/2008
Manager Martin O'Neill said he was left feeling frustrated after Aston Villa failed to breakdown Fulham's defence and had to settle for a draw yesterday.
O'Neill's side could have moved into third place in the Premier League with a win but instead consolidated their position in the top four.
The Irishman felt they had created three golden opportunities to score but was disappointed that his side could not take one of them.
Gareth Barry missed with two headers while Steve Sidwell also spurned a chance from close range.
O'Neill said: "We had three great opportunities and they were very, very close to breaking the deadlock. One goal would have been sufficient - it was that type of game.
"Brad made a good save near the end - but that was about the only real time he was called upon during the course of the game."
Although O'Neill was happy with the clean sheet he was frustrated that Villa could not build on the momentum they had created on the back of a draw with Manchester United and a win against Arsenal in their last two league games.
He added: "It was disappointing because - on the back of the past two games - we went into this with a lot of confidence.
"But overall, it was frustrating. If we had been able to take just one of those chances, I think it would have been enough."
O'Neill will hope his side can rediscover their scoring form against Everton next week.
