Off-target Ronaldo hoping for Old Trafford redemption
24/04/2008
Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to score in the return match against Barcelona after missing a penalty for Manchester United in last night's Champions League semi-final.
The winger sent his spot-kick wide of Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes' left-hand post in only the second minute of the match after Gabriel Milito had blocked a Ronaldo header with his hand.
And despite admitting he was disappointed to have missed from 12 yards, Ronaldo said a 0-0 draw in the Nou Camp was "a good result".
"It was a tough game," Ronaldo told Sky Sports.
"They kept the ball a lot [but] I think we defended well, we played well and 0-0 away is a good result."
On the penalty itself, Ronaldo added: "I didn't change my style.
"I have scored a few penalties in that side but today I didn't score it's no problem. But now I will score in Manchester."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he was surprised to see his top scorer miss such a gilt-edged chance, but praised the rest of his performance saying he was a constant thorn in Barca's side.
"Yes, I would have backed him to score. He was a bit unlucky," Ferguson stated.
"Maybe it came too early in the match for him, in the first minute. It was disappointing but he was fantastic for us otherwise."
