Portugal midfielder set to snub United for AC Milan
09/06/2008
Manchester United look set to miss out on Miguel Veloso after the Portugal midfielder admitted he wants to join AC Milan.
United had a bid for Veloso and Sporting Lisbon team-mate Joao Moutinho rejected in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Veloso was on the bench for Portugal's 2-0 win over Turkey in their Euro 2008 opener on Saturday.
The 22-year-old said talks have begun about a switch to Italian giants Milan, who will play in the Uefa Cup next season having finished fifth in Serie A.
"Me to Milan? I'd say yes to them, it's a dream (to play for them)," Veloso told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
"You only have look at what they've won in Europe and internationally.
"I'd say there was a good chance (of a deal being struck), yes. They've contacted us, now we'll wait."
Veloso, a defensive midfielder who can also play at centre-back, is valued at about £19.8 million.
Back in November, Veloso said he wanted to join United and play alongside compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.
Sir Alex Ferguson is yet to make any signings since lifting the Premier League and European Cup.
Zoltan Gera is poised to join Fulham after rejecting a new contract at West Bromwich Albion.
The Hungary midfielder helped the Baggies clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League last season.
Gera, whose current deal expires in the summer, scored 11 goals in the Championship.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray said the Midlands club had done everything to try and keep the 29-year-old at the Hawthorns.
