Poyet: Don't blame Berbatov
06/10/2008
Assistant manager Gus Poyet says Tottenham's ongoing problems are not the fault of departed striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Bulgarian left the club under a cloud at the end of the summer transfer window, joining Manchester United after weeks of speculation in which he made it clear he no longer wanted to play for Spurs.
Since his departure, the north London club have endured a winless run in the Premier League leaving them bottom of the table after seven mates with only two points.
Their poor form continued on Sunday with a 1-0 reverse at home to newly promoted Hull City.
But Poyet refused to put the blame on his former player, instead suggesting a change of fortune in front of goal would see his side begin to turn around their recent slump.
"Berba has gone," Poyet told the BBC.
"It is difficult for me and I hope everyone at the club thinks the same - what is going on here is not his fault. I don't want anyone to blame Berba."
After drawing another blank - the side's third league game in a row without scoring - Poyet added: "We played better today, we created more and we were brave but it's not working.
"It's just not going in and it's difficult if you can't score."
