Property tycoon reveals interest in Rovers takeover

29/06/2008

A millionaire tycoon has revealed he has held talks about a takeover of Blackburn Rovers.

Nabeel Chowdery has made a fortune in property and is a close friend of Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

The club's chairman John Williams confirmed earlier this summer that Rovers would be willing to discuss a buy-out.

A takeover by Cheshire-based businessman Chowdery could mean a huge transfer kitty for new Rovers boss Paul Ince.

Chowdery, who is not a Rovers fan, said a deal will be completed if Williams lowers the asking price.

"I think it's probably worth £40million, but the price they are asking is too high," Chowdery told The People newspaper.

"If they wanted to come to a realistic figure we could have a deal."

The American-based Dan Williams and JJB chief executive Chris Ronnie were both close to a takeover before complications arose.

The trustees of Rovers’ late benefactor Jack Walker own 99.9 percent of the club's shareholding, and have been accused in the past of setting an unrealistic price.

In April, a consortium from Iceland were linked with a takeover of the Lancashire club.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18660562-ADNFCR
