Queiroz awaiting decision by United and Portuguese FA
06/07/2008
Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz insists the decision to become Portugal's new manager is "out of his hands".
Queiroz is expected to quit Old Trafford to become the new Portugal coach, after Luiz Felipe Scolari left the job to manage Chelsea.
The 55-year-old's departure would be a huge blow to United. Queiroz is seen as one of the main reasons behind United's league and European triumph and his scouting contacts that has seen the club sign players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, and Anderson.
Queiroz said he is waiting for the Premier League champions and the Portuguese federation to come to a decision.
"I can say little more than you know at this time. Currently, the matter is out of my hands," Queiroz told Maisfutebol.
"From my part, there is not much to say, it needs to be resolved between the federation and Manchester United.
"We must wait calmly. I have spoken with the two parties and now I wait for movement."
Queiroz is in his second spell as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant, having returned to Old Trafford in 2004 after a disastrous season in charge of Real Madrid.
He has previously coached the Portuguese national team in the early 1990s after enjoying success at youth level.
It could leave Ferguson hunting for his sixth assistant manager at Old Trafford with Brian McClair, the club's academy director, the favourite to succeed Queiroz.
