Rangers agree terms with Lithuanian Velicka

16/06/2008

Rangers have agreed personal terms on a three-year deal with former Hearts striker Andrius Velicka.

The Lithuanian will complete his switch to Ibrox from current club Viking Stavanger in Norway next month once his registration is transferred.

The Glasgow giants won last season's Scottish Cup and League Cup double, but lost out to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League title race and were beaten in the final of the Uefa Cup by Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.

And in Velicka they are looking to add a striker who already has a proven record in the SPL, after scoring 19 goals in 47 league appearances for Hearts when on a long-term loan from FBK Kaunas between 2006 and 2008.

"Rangers Football Club can confirm that personal terms have been agreed on a three-year contract with Lithuanian striker Andrius Velicka," a statement on the club's website reads.

"An agreement has been reached with his current club Viking Stavanger that would see his registration being lodged with the Scottish FA and Scottish Premier League on July 14th when the player joins our training camp in Holland."

The fee for Velicka is undisclosed, although it is believed to be in the region of £1.5 million.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18641196-ADNFCR
