Reds stopper Carson completes Baggies switch
18/07/2008
West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson for an initial fee of £3.25 million.
The 22-year-old could end up costing the Baggies £3.75 million in total, depending on appearances and the club's success next season.
However, the deal still represents a cut-price move for Carson, who was valued by Liverpool at around £10 million only a few months ago when Aston Villa enquired about buying the player permanently during his loan spell.
Carson has signed a four-year deal at the Hawthorns after passing a medical earlier today and he is expected to be unveiled to the press next week.
The England goalkeeper, who comes with extensive Premier League experience after making 71 appearances in the last two seasons, is the seventh signing of the summer by West Brom boss Tony Mowbray, who is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the club's return to the top flight in 2008/09.
Carson joins Roman Bednar, Luke Moore, Do-heon Kim, Graham Dorrans, Gianni Zuiverloon and Marek Cech as the new arrivals.
