Richards hoping to continue derby run against United
29/11/2008
Manchester City defender Micah Richards is hoping to continue his side's run of derby wins against Manchester United after doing the double last season.
City won 1-0 at Eastland's last season and Richards would be happy with a similar result when the two sides face each other tomorrow.
Mark Hughes' side also beat United at Old Trafford for the first time in 34 years last season and Richards says the experience of both victories had a great effect on the squad.
He said: "It was unbelievable. Beating them at our place lifted our confidence, and it made us think we could beat anyone on our day. To do the double over them, which had not been done in so long, was a fantastic feeling."
Despite the defeats United still went on to lift the Premier League title. This does not worry Richards though who feels City have improved compared to last season.
He added: "We've got more players and some better players than last season, so there's no reason why we can't win again."
Manager Hughes, a former United player, says confidence amongst his players is high following wins over Arsenal and Schalke 04 in the last week.
Hughes said: "We're in great shape. It's been a great week, starting off against Arsenal, we've had a great performance here [against Schalke] and it leads nicely into a certain game at the weekend."
Although City beat the Gunners last time out Hughes' side had previously drawn one and lost three in their four league outings.
