Ronaldo 'to decide on future after Euros'

06/06/2008

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has said he will make a decision on his future after this summer's European Championships.

The 23-year-old Portugal star, who scored an incredible 42 goals playing largely as a winger last season, spoke to Brazilian website Terra during training ahead of the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

And, for the first time in several weeks, he directly addressed the rumours that he is keen to leave United in order to join Real Madrid during the transfer window.

However, rather than answering speculation on his likely destination for next season, Ronaldo has created more questions and said he would not speak about the rumours for another three weeks.

"I'll only talk about this again after the European Championships," he is quoted as saying.

"Don't ask me any questions because I won't answer until then."

Despite Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisting he is "very confident" Ronaldo will still be at Old Trafford in 2008/09, the player himself was less clear on his plans.

"I'd like to play for Real Madrid but only if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. However, it does not depend on me," he said.

The comments have already increased speculation that the midfielder will be sold to Madrid sooner rather than later.

And rumours that Ronaldo refused to see his club manager when Ferguson arrived at the Portuguese training camp this week have only added fuel to the fire.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18626675-ADNFCR
