Rovers agree terms with veteran midfielder Tugay
20/05/2008
Veteran midfielder Tugay has signed a new 12-month contract extension with Blackburn Rovers to remain at club until next summer.
The 37-year-old was rumoured to have been considering retirement or perhaps a move back home to Turkey this summer, given that his existing contract at Ewood Park was due to expire next month.
However, Tugay has agreed to play on with Rovers for an eighth season having enjoyed one of his most successful years since his arrival in 2001.
Blackburn finished a creditable seventh in the Premier League - missing out on qualification for the Intertoto Cup to Aston Villa by just two points.
The club says Tugay has "established himself as a firm favourite with both team-mates and supporters alike" after making more than 250 appearances for the club since his arrival from Glasgow Rangers.
He also won 94 caps for his country before quitting international football last year.
