Royals hand two-week suspensions to Sonko and Fae
01/05/2008
Premier League strugglers Reading have suspended first-team players Ibrahima Sonko and Emerse Fae for two weeks for a breach of team discipline.
Manager Steve Coppell has come down hard on the pair, who it is believed voiced their opposition to appearing in a reserve game earlier this week.
The news is something of a distraction for the squad ahead of this weekend's final home match of the season as they look to stave off the threat of relegation that continues to hang over the club.
The Royals are currently 17th in the table, just one place and one point ahead of third-from-bottom Birmingham City in the final relegation spot ahead of Saturday's match against Tottenham Hotspur at the Madejski Stadium.
However, Sonko and Fae will not be allowed to play in this game - or the final league match away to bottom side Derby County next Sunday.
"As far as I'm concerned it's an internal disciplinary measure and it's been dealt with," Coppell told the club's online TV station Reading World.
"I don't want to take anything away from the focus of what's important for us this week, and that is our game against Tottenham on Saturday.
"Everything else is just incidental as far as I'm concerned."
