Sagna injury blow for Gunners

16/11/2008

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is set to be out until December with an ankle injury.

The fullback was stretchered off in the Gunners' 2-0 loss to Aston Villa yesterday at the Emirates Stadium.

Sagna will miss Arsenal's crunch league games with Chelsea and Manchester City and the Carling Cup quarter-final against Burnley on December 2nd.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told the club's official website: "Yes, it is serious. He will be out for a few weeks, he has an injured ankle."

It is the second spell on the sidelines for Sagna in the last few weeks. The France international suffered an ankle injury last month forcing him to miss the 0-0 draw with Fenerbahce in the Champions League.

The Gunners are already without Robin van Persie, Tomas Rosicky, and Eduardo due to injury. And Cesc Fabregas will miss next Saturday's clash with City at Eastlands through suspension after being booked in the defeat to Villa.

Arsenal are nine points behind leaders Chelsea after 13 matches. Wenger bemoaned this week's international break in disrupting his plans.

"Everyone is very down, it is a massive disappointment," the Frenchman said.

"Now I don't see them before Thursday or Friday, so I don't have a chance to pick them up."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18878320-ADNFCR
