Sagna signs on at Arsenal
04/06/2008
Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has signed a new "long-term" contract that is is thought will keep him at the club until at least 2014.
The Gunners have not revealed the length or value of the deal, but reports suggest it is a six-year deal worth in the region of £40,000 a week.
In a statement, the club said it is "delighted" to reveal they have secured the French full-back's future after he enjoyed an excellent first season at the Emirates Stadium.
Despite ending the term trophyless for the third consecutive season, Arsene Wenger's side were heralded by pundits up and down the country for their flowing brand of football.
And the arrival of Sagna from Auxerre last summer contributed to the Gunners' attractive style of play, with his marauding nature assisting in attack as much as defence.
The 25-year-old made 40 appearances before his season was cut short by an ankle injury, although he was rewarded for his performances throughout the year by being named in the PFA Premier League team of the year.
"Everyone at the club is looking forward to Bacary's continued contribution in the forthcoming years," the Arsenal statement concluded.
