Scots to miss injured Miller
07/10/2008
Kenny Miller has been ruled out of the Scotland squad for this Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Norway due to a hamstring strain.
The Rangers striker is reported to have had a problem with the top of his hamstring for several weeks and needs an injection in order to cure it.
The news is likely to rile Scotland fans, who will question why Miller was allowed to continue playing for his club while carrying the problem.
However, Rangers manager Walter Smith said the injection was necessary and because of the recovery period required Miller will be unavailable for selection this week.
"He has a problem at the top of his hamstring and he has had that for a few weeks now," Smith told the club's official website.
"It needed an injection and it means he has to rest for five or six days before he starts training again and hopefully that will settle the problem.
"From our own point of view it is something that had to be done but unfortunately it means he misses the Scotland game.
"Although he played last Sunday against St Mirren, it is something that has been aggravating him and causing him pain.
"Hopefully the injection will clear that and he will be ready for our game next week against Dundee United."
Miller joins Gers team-mate Kevin Thomson on the sidelines after the midfielder was also forced out of contention after picking up an ankle injury at the weekend.
