Scottish Cup draw sets up Edinburgh derby

01/12/2008

The draw for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup was made at Hampden Park today, pairing Premier League and local rivals Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian.

The Edinburgh clubs will face off at Easter Road in January in what is the eye-catching tie of the round.

Scotland's other big rivals - Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers – avoided one another in the fourth round, with both clubs drawing Division One opponents.

Rangers have the tougher of the two draws after being given an away tie at league leaders St Johnstone, although they will be expected to progress alongside Celtic, who have a home fixture against midtable Dundee.

One of two regional league sides - Inverurie Loco Works or Vale of Leithen – will face Premier League opposition in round four, with the winner of their third-round tie set to take on struggling Motherwell.

Other matches that will see top-flight teams take on lower division sides include Inverness Caledonian Thistle against Partick Thistle; Lochee United or Ayr United versus Kilmarnock; Falkirk pitted with Queen of the South; and one of two Division Two clubs - Raith Rovers or Alloa Athletic - against Aberdeen.
