Second-half fightback gives Fulham 3-2 win

26/04/2008

Fulham staged a remarkable fightback at Eastlands to beat Manchester City 3-2.

While Roy Hodgson's men looked the brighter of the two sides in the opening minutes,it was City who took the lead, with Stephen Ireland sending a stunning shot into the top corner.

The hosts' lead was soon doubled as a superb team move saw a revived Elano feed Darius Vassel whose pace allowed him to cross in for Benjani to fire in from close range.

However, it was soon clear that Fulham had no intention of giving up their Premier League status without a fight and second-half substitute Diomansy Kamara finally managed to beat the impressive Joe Hart in the City goal, turning and shooting from just five yards out.

The London side then drew level, with veteran Danny Murphy putting in the rebound of his own saved penalty, awarded after Sun Jihai was deemed to have been guilty of shirt-pulling.

Fulham then went on to take all three points and it was Kamara who once again popped up to justify his multi-million pound transfer fee, firing past Hart in the second minute of extra time after a strong run from the flank.

While the result has given Roy Hodgson a vital boost in the closing stages of the season, it is also likely to add to speculation concerning City manager Sven-Goran Erikkson, with owner Thaskin Shinawatra looking far from pleased as his expensively-assembled side capitulated in the second half.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18569430-ADNFCR
