Song signs new "long-term" deal with Arsenal
09/06/2008
Cameroon international utility man Alexandre Song has signed a new deal with Arsenal.
The 20-year-old has agreed what has been described by the club as a "long-term contract", believed to be four years, after a solid season in 2007/08.
Song originally joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from French side Bastia in 2005, before signing permanent terms at the Emirates Stadium a year later.
Although yet to establish himself as a first-team regular with the Gunners, he impressed while on African Nations Cup duty with Cameroon in January.
And he is thought to be a major part of manager Arsene Wenger's plans for the future as one of the team's more versatile youngsters.
Primarily a holding midfielder, Song can also play in defence and was used as a makeshift central defender towards the end of the season.
"Everyone at the club is delighted that Alex has signed a new contract and looks forward to him being part of the first-team squad in the forthcoming years," a statement from Arsenal added.
