Sorensen slight leaves "sour taste" for Hutton
23/10/2008
Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has hit back at Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen's criticism of his late challenge during the sides' Premier League clash last weekend.
The Dane was left with a deep cut in his right eye-socket after Hutton challenged for a ball in the penalty area.
Sorensen was forced off to receive stitches in the wound, which was shown by TV cameras to be bleeding profusely, and later claimed he was "almost blinded" by the Scottish international who he accused of deliberately following through.
However, speaking to the Sun newspaper, Hutton claimed the contact between the players was "unintentional" and said the keeper's remarks "leave a wee bit of a sour taste in my mouth".
"I never went out there to cut anybody and for someone to come out and say I did it on purpose is not nice," the defender said.
"But that is Sorensen's opinion and there is nothing I can do about it."
Despite denying intent, Hutton did offer an apology for causing Sorensen the injury.
He added: "I have been in that position myself and I would never go out to harm anybody.
"It's harsh for him to say I did because I have said sorry and I totally mean that.
"I wouldn't put the blame on anybody for the tackles on me because football is a contact sport and these things happen, but I would like to say sorry again."
