Spurs agree deal for PSV stopper Gomes
27/06/2008
Tottenham Hotspur have announced a deal has been agreed with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven to sign their Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
The 27-year-old will complete his move to White Hart Lane once he has agreed personal terms, passed a medical and obtained a work permit, according to a statement from Spurs.
Gomes' arrival at the north London club seems to spell the end for England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who has fallen out of favour since Juande Ramos took over at the club last year.
The Brazilian international goalkeeper, who arrived in Europe from Cruzeiro in 2004, comes to England with an impressive CV, including four consecutive Eredivisie titles with PSV and a Champions League semi-final appearance in the 2004/05 season.
Gomes also played against Spurs for the Dutch side in last season's Uefa Cup, while he was an ever-present in their first team in domestic competition - conceding only 24 goals in 34 league games.
