Spurs sack goalkeeping coach
19/11/2008
Tottenham Hotspur have announced they are parting company with first-team goalkeeping coach Hans Leitert with immediate effect.
The Austrian, who was brought in to take over from Hans Segers in working with the club's shot-stoppers by former head coach Juande Ramos, only arrived at White Hart Lane in May.
However, Leitart's contract has been terminated following his apparent inability to get the best out of Spurs' first-choice goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
"The club can report that Hans Leitert, first-team goalkeeping coach, has left the coaching staff," a statement from Spurs said.
"Hans joined us during the close season and we should like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well.
"An announcement regarding a new appointment will be made in due course."
Over the last couple of weeks, Gomes - a Brazilian international - has seen his stock plummet with a series of high-profile blunders.
A glaring error against Fulham last weekend saw Spurs lose their first match under new manager Harry Redknapp in a 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage.
Gomes' failure to deal with crosses led to both Liverpool goals in Tottenham's 4-2 Carling Cup victory in north London in the previous match.
And his inability to hold a shot from Manchester City's Darius Vassell led to Robinho tucking home a rebound to give City a 1-0 lead in the recent league match between the sides at Eastlands.
