Taylor reveals Magpies respect for Kinnear
06/10/2008
Defender Steven Taylor has backed Newcastle United interim manager Joe Kinnear to improve the team's form after his arrival on Tyneside.
Taylor scored his first goal of the season in the Magpies' 2-2 draw with Everton on Sunday - a result that ended the Tynesiders' poor run of five consecutive defeats.
And after the game, the England under-21 international told nufcTV that Kinnear's arrival has boosted morale because he has fitted right in with the 'macho' culture at the club.
"He has been fantastic on the training ground, been good with the lads and given everyone a lift," Taylor said.
"He has taken the pressure off our shoulders and is a good man to work for.
"He's a man's man and we respect him."
Kinnear came in for criticism last week after a foul-mouthed tirade at the media following what he viewed as unfair reporting of his arrival and first few days at the club.
However, the former Luton and Wimbledon boss appears to have the support of the terraces after apparently sparking a turnaround in the team's work-rate and confidence levels in only his first week in charge.
