Terry predicts United downturn
13/08/2008
John Terry has voiced doubts over whether Manchester United can replicate their double-winning form of last season.
The Chelsea captain saw United pip his side to the Premier League title by two points, while the width of a post separated the two teams in Moscow as Chelsea lost in the Champions League final.
Sir Alex Ferguson has himself questioned whether Chelsea have any room to improve under new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari this season, but Terry has turned the same accusation upon the Scot's team.
"I don't think United have another level to go to," Terry, 27, said, predicting that stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand would struggle to match their title-winning form of the last two seasons.
"They had a lot of players at the peak of their form for the last two years."
"Rio Ferdinand has been awesome for the last two years and Cristiano Ronaldo was unbelievable - I don't think you'll see that again," Terry said.
"Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Ryan Giggs - they have all been fantastic.
"I think we can close the gap because Man United were at the very top of their game last season.
"But we've been very close to them and we had injuries and a change of manager."
