Toffees complete Pienaar signing
22/04/2008
Everton have completed the permanent signing of South African international midfielder Steven Pienaar from Borussia Dortmund for £2 million.
The former Ajax playmaker has signed a three-year deal with the Toffees that will keep him at Goodison Park until at least July 2011.
Pienaar originally joined Everton on a season-long loan last summer and has impressed manager David Moyes with his industry and ability as the main stand-in at playmaker in the absence of Mikel Arteta.
And fans on Merseyside have been equally impressed with his contribution this season, as Moyes' men have moved into pole position to take fifth place in the Premier League and a Uefa Cup spot for next season.
Speaking about the player to the club's official website earlier this month, Moyes said: "Steven has done well for us. He is one of the reasons our football has improved.
"He is a really good football player."
Pienaar has made 35 appearances for the Everton first-team this season, scoring two goals.
