Tottenham deny Eto'o link
21/05/2008
Tottenham Hotspur have denied speculation linking them with a move for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.
The Spanish giants are believed to be keen to offload the Cameroon international this summer as they embark on a major overhaul of their squad which could also see Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho also leave the Nou Camp.
Spurs are thought to be exploring their options should striker Dimitar Berbatov decide his future lies elsewhere.
There have been conflicting reports over the last week with some experts claiming a deal in excess of £20 million has been agreed between the two sides, while other reports claim the striker's wage demands have priced him out of a move.
Spurs have refused to officially comment on the speculation, with other players such as Real Zaragoza's striker Diego Milito and Crystal Palace's wonderkid John Bostock also being linked to the club.
The Press Association has quoted a source from the club who claims that the speculation could end up misleading fans suggesting that there may be no truth to the Eto'o rumours at all.
"The normal thing here is that when we sign a player we announce it but we don't comment at all on just speculation," said the source.
"A problem is that there is so much of it from so many sources that if fans keep reading this speculation they are in danger of being misled."
Spurs will hope that Berbatov does not leave the club and therefore not have to bring in Eto'o or anyone else to replace him.
