Tottenham's Dawson faces FA wrath

21/10/2008

Tottenham centre-half Michael Dawson has been charged by the Football Association with improper conduct.

The 24-year-old was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Mamady Sidibe in the dying moments of Sunday's defeat to Stoke, and has been charged for his reaction to that dismisal.

Dawson faces an automatic three-match ban for the sending off and could have that suspension increased by two games if found guilty.

The defender has until 1800 BST on Wednesday to respond.

If found guilty it will be a bitter blow to Tottenham manager Juande Ramos who needs all possible players at his disposal if he is to get them out of their current dismal situation.

Spurs prop up the table with just two points from eight games – a lower points total than Derby had at this stage last season – and face an extremely tricky tie away to Italian side Udinese in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

The Italians are currently in second place in Serie A.
