Wenger and Fergie ready to spend
15/04/2008
Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are ready to open their cheque books this summer as they look to strengthen their squads before next season.
Wenger has received criticism for signing numerous young players while ignoring the bigger names, in contrast to Ferguson who spent £60 million on bringing Nani, Anderson, Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves to Old Trafford in the summer.
But Wenger has said he "would not be scared" to spend if the right players come onto the market.
Speaking to the Arsenal official website, the manager said: "If we have the money and I am convinced it is worth it, we will do it."
He also revealed that he would not be interested in bringing Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho to the Premier League.
"We couldn't afford him now so we have to forget it," he added.
But Ferguson fully expects to spend money over the summer, despite believing he does not need to part with the cash.
"I think there is an area where we are short and we can stock up on that a bit," he told the News of the World.
But he will not spend on money on players that won't improve his squad.
"We have to get the best players, because when you have a lot of quality in your squad, you have to be absolutely correct on who you bring in," Ferguson explained.
