Wenger denies Ferguson claims that Gunners are in "disarray"
29/11/2008
Manager Arsene Wenger has rejected claims by Manchester United's Alex Ferguson that the Gunners are in "disarray" following their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Ferguson's side face City on Sunday but feels the form of their City rivals has been blown out of proportion slightly because of the sate the Arsenal side were in when they played them.
The Gunners problems stemmed from comments by then-captain William Gallas who questioned his team-mates resolve before Wenger dramatically dropped him and stripped him of the captaincy just before the game with City.
Ferguson was quoted in the Daily Mail saying: "Maybe City got Arsenal on the right day last Saturday because there seems to be a lot of disarray in the Arsenal camp with the carry-on with one of their players.
"But you can only do what you are supposed to do and City did that very convincingly."
However, Wenger has dismissed the claims of his long-time rival and believes the Gunners were merely beaten by a good side something he thinks United will find out for themselves on Sunday.
"I don't feel we are in disarray," the Arsenal boss told the Daily Mail.
"I feel that Manchester City are a good side and Manchester United will maybe see that on Sunday."
Arsenal have slipped into fifth place in the league and are ten points behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool. But Wenger feels the form of the top two has made his team's form look worse than it is.
He said: "We had a few bad results and with the pace set by Liverpool and Chelsea, that made us drop off, but the quality is there and what happened to us can happen to them."
One of the few positive results for Arsenal in the last month came when they beat United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium and Wenger thinks if his side can get a victory over Chelsea tomorrow then they will get another boost in confidence.
He added: "If this team beats Chelsea after having beaten Manchester United, I believe they will go from strength to strength. You just have to believe, and I know we can beat them."
