Yakubu ruled out for season
01/12/2008
Everton striker Yakubu has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Nigerian international was substituted after just nine minutes of the Toffees' 1-0 victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane.
And manager David Moyes has revealed the extent of the problem, which deprives his side of their five-goal striker for the remainder of the campaign.
"Yak has ruptured his Achilles and will be out for the rest of the season," he told the club's official website.
"Injuries happen in football but we're disappointed for Yak because he is a really important player for us and we will miss him."
Moyes, who also lost substitute Louis Saha to a hamstring injury after he came on to replace Yakubu, hinted that the club could make some new signings in January.
"I have a really good chairman and board and I'm sure they will do everything they can to help us," he continued.
"Louis has a hamstring injury which we will need to assess in the week.
"On the back of James Vaughan's knee injury it has really stretched us but when Victor Anichebe came on he did really well."
