Adriano signs contract extension
26/09/2005
Inter Milan's Adriano has agreed terms on a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Nerazzurri until 2010.
The 23-year-old Brazilian striker became one of the most sought-after talents in the game after bagging 16 goals in 30 league appearances for Inter Milan last season.
Chelsea made a £30 million bid for the forward during the summer but Inter boss Roberto Mancini refused to entertain the offer, insisting he was worth double the amount offered.
Real Madrid were also known to be interested in Adriano but the player has now committed his future to the blue and black San Siro club.
The news is a massive boost for the Italian giants, who are currently second in Serie A, three points behind leaders Juventus, thanks in no uncertain terms to Adriano, who scored a brilliant hat-trick against Treviso last month.
Commenting after signing the deal, Adriano said: "I thank the club for putting their faith in me. [Signing for Inter] was a lifetime choice, Inter is my home."
He also joked: "I have signed until 2010. 2010? I will be old with white hair."
The extension exercises a clause in his previous contract agreed after the striker returned to Inter from Parma in 2004.
He joined Inter for 5 million from CR Flamengo in 2001.
