All Blacks lose scrum-half star
08/11/2005
Talented New Zealand scrum-half Lance Hohaia has been ruled out of the remaining Tri-Nations fixtures with an ankle injury.
The 22-year-old was expected to start ahead of Stacey Jones in Saturday's clash with Great Britain at Huddersfield following a successful return from another injury.
However, All Blacks medical chiefs said the new injury, which he picked up shortly before full-time in Sunday's win over England, will require extensive treatment.
"It is disappointing to lose such a quality player but Lance has handled this setback well," said New Zealand head coach Brian McClennan.
"He played extremely well in Sunday's match and showed he had recovered very quickly after being injured in Sydney.
"He was outstanding on attack and defence and had really shown he was ready to step straight back into the Test side. He has a bright future in the Kiwis' jersey."
Sunday's game against England, which ended 30-22 to the All Blacks, was Hohaia's first since injuring his left ankle in the 38-28 win over Australia in Sydney last month.
