All Blacks too good for Wales
05/11/2005
Wales were relieved when full time finally spared any further humiliation at the Millenium Stadium.
The Welsh defence did well to restrict the All Blacks to only a 3-41 win, inspired by fly-half Dan Carter.
Carter scored two wonderful tries, made five conversions out of five, scored two penalties and made three wickedly weaving runs.
The crowd gasped over the biggest shock of the day when the tannoy announced that Carter was overlooked as the man of the match.
Rico Gear completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute, by this point the Six Nations champions were well out of the contest.
Tana Umaga shrugged off weeks of intense speculation over the new spear tackle video to rampage all over the pitch.
New Zealand coach Graham Henry said: "We did not retain possession as well as we should, apart from that I'm quite happy."
The All Blacks started as they meant to go on, from the first 10 minutes they provided incessant attacking.
It was surprising the Welsh defence remained in tact as long as the ninth minute, when Brent Cockbain gave away the first penalty converted by Dan Carter.
