Alonso: Kimi had better car
14/10/2005
Formula One champion Fernando Alonso has said that he is happy with his performance this season despite winning fewer races than Kimi Raikkonen.
The youngest ever winner of the drivers' championship said that while he would be trying to beat Raikkonen in Sunday's Chinese grand prix, the season had already been "perfect".
Alonso currently tops the leaderboard with an unassailable 123 points having won six races. Raikkonen is 19 points behind in second place with seven wins to his name.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the race in Shanghai, Alonso said he had won the title in the second quickest car.
"If everything stays like this I will be happy because I won only one race less than the best car in Formula One," he told the Shanghai Daily newspaper.
The 24-year-old added: " If we win the constructors' it's okay. If not it's okay."
His Renault team may feel rather differently, as they head into the final race of the season two points clear of McLaren-Mercedes.
