Arsenal's injury worries deepen
16/10/2005
Arsene Wenger suffered another injury blow as Freddie Ljungberg was ruled out for around three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Arsenal, who were already without six first-team players for their trip to West Brom yesterday, saw Ljungberg limp off after half an hour at The Hawthorns.
The matter was compounded by West Brom coming from a goal down to win 2-1.
Now with a difficult trip to Sparta Prague on Tuesday in the Champions League to concentrate on, Wenger knows that his side will be without another experienced player.
"It's very difficult to accept as maybe Gilberto is the only one who will come back [for the Sparta Prague game]," Wenger said.
Arsenal paid a heavy price for the international break, with three players, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell and Alexander Hleb, all sustaining injuries.
Gilberto also missed the West Brom game through jet-lag after arriving back late from international duty with Brazil, while Thierry Henry has been sorely missed since injuring his groin on international duty with France back in September.
"Twice now after the international break we have paid a heavy price in terms of injuries," Wenger added.
Robin van Persie will also miss the trip to Prague through injury.
