Aspinwall becomes a Giant
12/10/2005
England international Martin Aspinwall has swapped the JJB for the Galpharm Stadium after joining Huddersfield Giants on a two-year deal.
The 23-year-old is a versatile back who has impressed both on the wing and at centre during his time at Wigan but he has decided to take on a new "challenge" and join the Giants.
He follows former Warriors team-mate and Great Britain second-row Stephen Wild to West Yorkshire and becomes the sixth player coach Jon Sharp has recruited ahead of the new Super League season next year.
"I'm very excited about coming here," Aspinwall, who was the first player to turn professional from the Wigan scholarship and development programme, said after completing the move.
"I've spent the past four or five years in the Wigan first team and have some fantastic memories of my time there.
"There were several options available to me, but a move to the Giants really appealed. They're clearly one of the most ambitious and progressive clubs in Super League and the thought of being a part of their future success is very exciting.
Sharp hailed the arrival of the youngster, calling him "quick, strong and athletic" and an "exciting addition to our squad".
"At 23 Martin has got his best years ahead of him," he added.
"He is a very good finisher who I am sure will give our Super League XI squad some great attacking options."
