Beckham launches red card appeal
24/10/2005
David Beckham has appealed against the red card he picked up in his side's defeat against Valencia on Sunday.
Both Thomas Gravesen and Beckham were sent from the field as the Spanish giants fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Bernebeau in their third defeat of the season, dropping from first to third in the table.
The England captain was given a second yellow card for sarcastically applauding the referee immediately after being booked for dissent.
Madrid claim the decision by referee Arturo Dauden Ibanez was harsh on Beckham and have thus appealed on the player's behalf.
Los Merengues will discover on Tuesday whether their appeal is successful. If it is not, the 30-year-old will miss his side's tie against Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday.
Beckham's third dismissal of his Madrid Career was very similar to Wayne Rooney's sending off for Manchester United against Villarreal in the Champions League last month, for which he received a two game ban.
