Bolton earn away draw
20/10/2005
Bolton achieved a hard-earned draw against Besiktas in the Uefa Cup Group H match this evening.
The Turkish opposition took the lead in the sixth minute through a strike from Gonclaves Ailton. His 20-yard left footed strike sailed into the top left hand corner of the goal putting the visitors 1-0 down.
Sam Allardyce's team then pressed the team placed second in the Turkish league, 13 points behind Galatasaray, in the hope of nicking a goal.
Their chance came in the 28th minute when a cross from El-Hadji Diouf rocketed in from the right side of the penalty area and fell to Mexican front man, Jared Borgetti.
The 32-year-old striker took the opportunity on his left foot 12 yards out and struck the ball sweetly towards the top left of goal.
Although Bolton were without regulars Gary Speed and Ivan Campo they put on a brave performance possibly aided by the resignation of the Besiktas coach, Riza Calimbay, on Monday.
Both teams continued to press for goals in the second half however the score remained unchanged.
Besiktas attacked in the 72nd minute after a foul by Kevin Nolan presented them with a free kick on the left channel however the left footed cross from goalscorer Ailton was cleared by Bolton midfielder Khalilou Fadiga.
Chances fell to Bolton as well in the second half with Fadiga shooting left footed from 25 yards in the 87th minute only to see his attempt sail over the bar.
