Bryant surprise leader at final tournament
03/11/2005
Bart Bryant took a two-shot lead on the first day at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. He tops a leaderboard containing Retief Goosen, Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia.
American Bryant did not drop a single shot in a superb round of eight-under-par 62, aided by an eagle three at the par five 15th.
Retief Goosen is two shots off the pace at six under par. He suffered bogeys at the seventh and tenth holes but had got off to an excellent start with birdies at the third, fourth and fifth.
Sergio Garcia is leading the European challenge and is tied with Tiger Woods at four under par at the end of day one.
The young Spaniard dropped his first shot at the 18th hole to slip back to four shots behind Bryant.
Phil Mickelson is the only player in the US Tour's top 30 who was not in action at the final tournament of the season.
