Burrow delighted with dream call-up

18/10/2005

Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow has today expressed his delight at receiving a call-up to Brian Noble's Great Britain squad for the forthcoming fixtures with Australia and New Zealand.

The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form all season in the engage Super League and was rewarded with a place in the end of season Dream Team.

Noble then capped the lot by naming the player among his 24 for the international warm-up games leading up to the Tri-Nations clashes with New Zealand and Australia.

"It's fantastic, a dream come true. I can't say it enough really. It's something you dream about doing as a kid," Burrow said.

"How many minutes I play in the Tri-Nations, I am not sure, but hopefully I will gain loads of experience and see what it is like to play at the top level.

"I have been in the England squad, which I have thoroughly enjoyed, and I benefited from playing against different countries and different styles of rugby league but this is the pinnacle of what you want to play in, against Australia and New Zealand, and it's all down to going on the pitch and performing against them."

Burrow will have high expectations on his shoulders, particularly as his Leeds team-mate Danny McGuire, as well as Sean Long, Paul Sculthorpe, Terry Newton and Kris Radlinski are all sidelined.

But Noble is optimistic that his side has the strength in depth to cope with arguably the best two sides in rugby league.

"I feel as confident as I did last year," he said. "We have 24 or 25 very exciting players in the squad with others knocking at the door and pushing them hard for selection.

"Belief that we can win the tournament isn't a problem for us. We have to approach it the same way we did last year: with a lot of belief, a lot of confidence and the knowledge that if we play well we'll come away with the spoils."
