Carney promises improvement
31/10/2005
Brian Carney has pledged to make up for his recent error-ridden performance against New Zealand when Great Britain take on Australia.
The Britain vice-captain produced a number of costly errors in the 42-26 defeat against the All Blacks at Loftus Road on Saturday in his side's opening Tri-Nations match.
Carney was substituted after twice fumbling high kicks and failing to contain opposite number Manu Vatuvei.
However the 29-year-old has vowed to put this nightmare performance behind him and make amends on his home ground against Australia this Saturday.
"If you beat yourself up for too long, then it starts to affect you," said Carney.
"We've all been in situations before where we haven't had a good game but you have an opportunity in this sport to put things right the next week.
"I think a lot of it was ring rustiness. You've got to be up to match speed and that's probably where I wasn't up to scratch."
Coach Brian Noble has a full complement of players to choose from for the crucial tie against the Aussies and Carney is hopeful he will be picked to start the match.
