Castillo gains revenge over Corrales
09/10/2005
Jose Luis Castillo gained revenge for his May defeat by Diego Corrales when he knocked out his fellow Mexican in the fourth round of this non-title fight in Las Vegas.
The bout was supposed to be for the WBO and WBC lightweight titles which Corrales had claimed from Castillo in the original fight, where Corrales had been knocked down twice in the tenth round before winning.
However, after Castillo failed to make the weight at the weigh-in on Friday Castillo was two pounds over at the first weigh-in and three-and-a-half pounds over at the second and third the fight was declared a non-title bout and went ahead.
Both men went on the attack from the start but it was Castillo who dominated the opening round and by the end of the second, Corrales had swelling around his right eye.
The fight continued until 47 seconds into the fourth round when Castillo caught Corrales with a left hook and the WBO/WBC champion hit the canvas.
Corrales was able to make it to his feet by the end of the ten-count but could not continue, slumping back into his corner.
Many in boxing are now predicting a third fight between the two as both fighters have one win each, especially after what happened at the weigh-in.
