Castleford make Super League return
09/10/2005
Castleford secured a quick return to Super League with a 36-8 victory over Whitehaven in the National League Grand Final.
The Tigers, who have spent the last season out of the top flight, took and early lead through two Richard Fletcher penalties and set up their triumph with three tries in six minutes midway through the first period at the Halton Stadium.
Whitehaven's indiscipline cost them badly, conceding two tries while reduced to 12 men and with Leroy Joe lucky to escape with just a caution for an incident with the sensational Brad Davis.
The veteran Davis starred for Castleford, scoring two interception tries and setting up four others to end his career on a high.
Castleford went into the interval 26-0 up, with the 37-year-old adding his second try just three minutes into the second half to put the match beyond the Cumbrians.
David Seeds and Craig Calvert both scored late consolation tries for Whitehaven, yet could not prevent their side from slumping to their second consecutive National League Grand Final defeat.
