Charlton come from behind
22/10/2005
Charlton secured a club record fifth straight away win as they came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Fratton Park.
Dario Silva had opened the scoring for Pompey before second half goals from Darren Ambrose and Dennis Rommedahl won the points for the Londoners.
Portsmouth started brightly, dominating the first half-an-hour, and we fully deserving of their lead.
A long ball from Andy O'Brien was hopefully chased by Silva and the Uruguayan's persistence was rewarded as he reached the ball and smashed a low drive from a tight angle across Charlton's goalkeeper Stephan Andersen for his first Portsmouth goal.
Charlton didn't threaten until just after the half hour mark when Ambrose beat two defenders and was denied by Jamie Ashdown, who made a good block in a one-on-one situation.
Charlton were better after the break as Pompey's original high tempo began to fade and scored on the hour.
In-form Danny Murphy slid in Ambrose and he finished under the advancing Ashdown to score his first goal since joining the club in the summer.
Charlton kept pressing and a defensive error set up the winner with 13 minutes remaining.
Zvonimir Vukic was caught in possession midway in the Portsmouth half and when the ball fell to Murphy, he dissected two defenders with his pass to find Rommedahl, who emphatically finished into the roof of the net.
