Chelsea alerted to American sensation
20/10/2005
Premiership champions Chelsea have again been linked to American sensation Freddy Adu after the teenager admitted to being unsettled in the States.
The 16-year-old currently plays for US side DC United and is considered to be the hottest prospect in Major League Soccer.
He is also one of the biggest earners in American football, despite only recently turning professional, thanks to a number of significant advertising endorsements.
Chelsea, along with big names in Spain and Italy, were linked with a move for Adu last summer but the star insisted at the time he wanted to establish himself in the US.
However, speaking yesterday, Adu admitted he was growing increasingly unhappy at DC, news that could spark a bidding war for the talented forward.
He told reporters: "I'm voted player of the week one week and the next I'm sitting on the bench. I'm thinking 'what's going on here?'"
He added: "It becomes very tempting to look ahead and I'm doing that right now. I have to make the best decision for myself."
Jose Mourinho's Blues have today reiterated their desire to sign the best young players in the world and Adu would certainly fit the bill.
